Oh, Valentine's Day how you've come back around to announce you're here. Everywhere you look, pink, red, hearts, and words of love. I have to be honest when I say my personal opinions of the holiday have changed over the years. Like most holidays, Valentine's Day has become more of a realization of mine people love or hate this particular holiday. It's pretty obvious we love it when we're in a relationship, or have someone special to spend it with and hate this holiday when we're single. Either way, we tend to get sucked into it, and a reminder hits us that we're in a relationship or we're single.
When we're in a relationship, there's an expectation of exchanging candy, cards, gifts, and flowers plus a date of some kind, going to dinner, the movies, etc. While all those things are lovely, this particular day can be pretty expensive. We've all heard it before, "I feel or think love should be celebrated every day, even if it's a small gesture." I completely agree with that yet every Valentine's Day it's more special than any other day. I've had my fair share of solo Valentine's Days in the past and genuinely, it kind of sucks so this year whether you're in a relationship or single, take today to love yourself.
With that said, I'm keeping Valentine's Day simple this year by getting creative in the kitchen and taking some time to enjoy myself. Even though I have a sweetheart to spend today with, today is about love, and there's nothing more I love than a delicious cocktail and some 'me' time. To celebrate myself, I made a sparkling lime cucumber vodka cocktail with raspberry and mint.
Cheers to loving your friendships, your relationships, and most of all cheers to loving yourself. Happy Valentine's Day!
