The New Year is here and it’s time to tackle cleaning out my closet. For some, this can be a stressful and overwhelming project, however it's nothing a little music and a glass of merlot can't fix. To be honest, I’ve held onto some pieces for many many years. I tell myself, I’ll wear it with a certain outfit or for a special occasion someday, but of course that never happens. Instead of browsing through a walk-in closet full of clothes I've had for years, I'd simply rather go buy something new.
They say it's healthy to clean out your closet once a year. That being said, I focused on pieces I hadn't worn in two plus years. Clearly I'm long overdue. My personal style has changed and that alone helped me eliminate a lot. I made two piles; one for donation and one for trash. Tossed anything with holes or stains. When going through your closet, I suggest selecting each piece and asking yourself three important questions:
1. Do I love it?
2. Does it fit?
3. Does it represent my current style?
I recently invested in hangers that are the same style and color. Highly recommended. As I went through each section in my closet, I switched out hangers and color-coded my pieces. I ended up donating four bags full of clothes, shoes, and accessories to a local shelter for those who are less fortunate than me. Words can't describe how amazing it feels to know my clothes will help women in need. I feel so relieved; I finally have a well-organized spacious closet to start off the New Year.
