Man, time really does fly when you're having the time of your life. Today I've officially been living in Las Vegas for a month. That makes it a month for my mom as well. She too got a place and made the big move along with me. We both couldn't be happier with our decision
To be quite honest, the drive came with a few challenges. The first being was having to tow our cars behind our big moving trucks. We've never had to tow anything before so backing up or turning around was not an option. With that said, take my advice and make wide turns at gas stations, or else you could get stuck in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone service with gas station attendants who can't take the risk of helping while on the job. Not fun. The second was having to sleep in my car overnight at a trucker rest stop. It sounds sketchy, but it was perfectly safe. With our timing, we couldn't find a hotel. We had animals, and big vehicles to try and park without having to back up or turn around. It wasn't happening. We arrived at the truck rest stop at 1 am and no one was outside or awake. So, my mom, our chihuahua, my two cats, and I crammed in the back of my car with the best "car-bed" I could make out of my bed memory foam and a pile of blankets. I'm pretty sure my mom and I got a total of four hours of sleep that night, not a big deal.
I managed to find radio stations on my journey, but there were many times I had no channels coming through and no service. Just me, myself and the open road. I couldn't help but think of my friends back in Seattle, the fact that I was actually moving states, making this the biggest challenge of my life so far, and how excited/nervous I was to live and see my boyfriend every single day rather than every two-three weeks. I found myself a little emotional at times during the drive as I remembered great times in Seattle, and how my future in Las Vegas will be a fresh start with new surroundings and new people. The moment I drove over the mountain hills and got a glimpse at the bright and vast Las Vegas city ahead of me, I'm not going to lie, I got an adrenaline rush and honestly, hit the gas. Don't worry; mom kept up! We couldn't wait to get there and successfully we made it to Las Vegas just before midnight.
We arrived at a hotel/casino, parked, and as I stepped out of the truck, I heard music and noticed the sky was glowing from the city lights. Well Hello, Vegas! My boyfriend was waiting for us, and we couldn't help but jump in each other's arms with happiness. We did it! We were so excited that the three of us went to dinner, because at any time of the night, you can get food. I mean, it's Vegas!
To tell you the truth, I'm still excited to be here. It's hard to believe it's been a month already; there's still so much more to explore. It's still only just beginning and let me tell you; I'm already having the best time of my life.
